Spring is real… and it’s spectacular! Well, at least that’s how I’m feeling today as I gather my cosmetics essentials du jour and thoughtfully record my thoughts for you. I’m currently sitting in our studio with the doors open, letting the fresh air and long-awaited sun flood in. When Spring arrives, Vancouverites and Lower Mainland Ladies can’t help but soak in all of the happy vibes that the change of season brings. And, as the season changes, I’ve also found myself changing up my beauty regime. I feel like we all want to lighten and brighten up our cosmetics routine… and I’ve been trying and testing some great options that I’d like to share with you!
Mac Lustre Finish Lipstick in Syrup
It’s sheer and moisturizing in the most gorgeous natural lilac-y, pink-y, shade. Having cool undertones, this lipstick is a win for me. I’ve had it for quite a while, but recently rediscovered it and it’s been out on my vanity for daily wear ever since. The application is lovely – it swipes on sheer, but is quite buildable. It feels easy-breezy on the lips, and is providing a welcome change from all of the long wearing lip colours that I’ve been plastering on over the Winter.
Bourjois Paris – Universal Illuminating Powder
I have been wanting to try a Bourjois product for some time. (I love anything Parisian!) I finally pulled the trigger and purchased this fine, icy pink illuminating powder. Bourjois reinvented this product in celebration of its 150th anniversary. It’s a vintage edition of its first historical best-seller: Java Rice Powder – intended to create a luminous complexion with a radiant and velvety finish to create a youthful glow.
On my skin tone, this is best used as a highlighter above my blush (think ombre effect). Avoid sweeping too close to the under-eye area as it does settle in and draw attention to fine lines. The scent is not as lovely as it could be… it smells… well kind of like your granny’s powder might have… hehe! The product is worth the momentary sniff. I have been loving it!
Bourjois Paris – Happy Light Luminous Serum Primer
I nabbed this product the very same day as I saw it had won an award from Elle Canada. I’ve very much enjoyed the application of this product as compared to other primers. Just a couple pumps applies and melts into the skin like a dream. It very much feels like a serum – and you’ll learn to know that I LOVE me some serum! 😉 The primer’s claim to fame is that it illuminates and hydrates with a smoothing action. I have to agree!
Victoria’s Secret – Noir Tease
Speaking of scents… it’s Spring, girls… go and get yourself a new perfume to rock for the season! (One day, you’ll smell it again and it will totally remind you of all of the fun memories that you made over Spring/Summer 2017!) I was fortunate to receive this for my birthday in April – so I’m all set! This is one of my favourites for any time of year… but it certainly is sweet and ‘juicy’ – if you go for that sort of thing in the Spring – I highly recommend. I’m a sucker for these types of scents. The next perfume purchase on my hit list will be Katy Perry’s new ‘Mad Love’.
Maybelline New York – Lash Sensational, Full Fan Effect
‘Full Fan Effect’ is a spot-on description of what this mascara does for you. I’ve never tried a Maybelline mascara before – and have shied away from these chunky-packaged mascaras (for some reason)… but I have enjoyed using this very much! Not only is the packaging pink – so it looks cute with the stash – but this baby preforms like a champ! I have been longing to get eyelash extensions again for some time, but until I pull the trigger, I have to say that swiping this onto my lashes gives me an effect that is as close-to extensions as mascara will get. Love love love that full fan effect!
Neutrogena – Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen
I have to thank Jody for introducing me to this product. I had once heard controversy over SPF potentially being a cancer causer, so I have been very unsure about applying sunscreen over the years, so I’ve generally opted to simply stay in the shade! After the first two photoshoots of the Spring, Jody and I both got NAILED with burns – which really crept up on us unexpectedly – after very little time exposed to the sun.
I’ve always been icky about thick creams and the heavy sunscreen smell – so that is why I was pleasantly surprised when I tried this sheer body mist – with an ultra light spray and non-greasy feel. The aerosol application is very precise. I have been spraying this specifically on my chest – which I am petrified about seeing it decline into a shoe-leather finish. This product has been a go-to every since. Even though it’s not technically a cosmetic, I have included it in my (almost) daily routine on my chest when I apply my facial skincare for the day. It’s a great step to preserve your skin as the sun joins us in all it’s glory this season.
Happy Spring – and even HAPPIER Cosmetics Shopping!
