The inspiration behind launching a media movement that focuses heavily on featuring Social Media Influencers and Creative Entrepreneurs comes from our sheer excitement as ‘followers’ and ‘subscribers’ ourselves. Women across the globe are creating and producing their very own media empires, curating their own content, coining their signature style, and starring as the face of their brand entity. The opportunities that social media has afforded women to be creative and put themselves on the world’s stage, are so very exciting to me. Any woman with an idea, drive and a passion to hustle has the ability to build herself a dream career with very little capital. Others have found social media as an outlet to share their hobbies – and of those women – an inspired few have virtually fallen into fame and fortune.
Whichever side of the social media screen you sit – whether you are a content creator or a subscriber, inspiration-infused entertainment has added an entirely new element to the way a modern woman spends her time. Personally, I now devote more of my daily attention to accessing social media than I do watching television, and I am certainly not alone! So why do we enjoy social media as a form of entertainment? Well, it is definitely accessible at our fingertips… and in many cases, it comes in small doses – just enough to fill blank segments of time throughout the day. But for me, I choose social media as it provides a delicious array of inspiration. Rather than taking in a storyline, as you do while watching television, you are learning and experiencing things from a real-life perspective. Through social media, you are able to product test, enjoy the experience of styling clothing you don’t even own, learn useful tips and ‘hacks’, and take in the creativity of the content creator or ‘influencer’, as they are now commonly called. Today I am sharing 5 of my current favourite global social media mavens! (But boy-oh-boy there are so many more on my list!)
The first You Tuber that I caught onto when I first discovered the world of You Tube Channels is Shannon Harris of the channel: Shaaanxo. She is a New Zealand based lover of makeup who shares tutorials, celebrity inspired looks, product reviews, lipstick colour swatch videos and her favourite product suggestions. She also shares more of her life on her vlog channel. A vlog is the term used for video blog – which essentially follows a day (or so) in the life of the You Tuber. You Tubers who set up their channels to be ‘monetized’, earn a percentage of the advertising dollars raised by the ads on their videos. A You Tuber such as Shannon who has millions of followers is able to pull in an enviable paycheque! At a young age, Shannon has been able to leverage her You Tube fame by creating her very own line of luxury makeup brushes and false strip eyelashes which she sells in her online boutique: www.xobeautyshop.com She has also partnered with cosmetics companies such as BH Cosmetics on projects like her very own, curated eyeshadow and lipstick palette. Shannon Harris is young, genuine, creative and business savvy – more than just a pretty face!
Mckenna Bleu is a blogger and Instagram Maven who combines a love for travel with a passion for fashion. In a world of minimalism and 50 shades of grey, Mckenna’s zest for life in colour shows through vividly in the fun, feminine and unexpected pairings she makes. Make no mistake, Mckenna is always very much on trend – but you can definitely expect an extra element of whimsy and detail that is her signature style!
Through partnering with an affiliate program, Mckenna curates styled outfits and collections available for purchase online, and directs her fans to buy them directly, which gives this creative business woman the ability to earn a well-deserved commission based on her recommendations. It also makes it fun and easy for anyone at home to consider Mckenna their very own personal stylist – and shop away from the comfort of… well, wherever!
What’s Up Moms
Mom life aint always easy! But, one thing is for sure… it’s more fun in the company of other moms who share the same frustrations and triumphs! Filmed out of California, What’s Up Moms is one of my favourite You Tube Channels for #momlife! “With over 1.5 million subscribers and over 30 million views per month, What’s Up Moms is the #1 Moms Network on YouTube, producing highly relatable how-to and short form comedic videos geared toward women. Started by mom friends hoping to give other moms the information they were seeking, WUM has been featured on the Today Show, Good Morning America, Fast Company, and numerous online sites such as HuffPost, BuzzFeed, and Yahoo.” – as taken from whatsupmoms.com
Pink Peonies is a blog created by the talented and stylish Rachel Parcell. A young woman from Utah, Rachel or ‘Rach’ began the blog to document her first year of marriage in 2010. It didn’t take long for her affinity for style to be noticed, as her fashion picks began to drive major traffic to the retailers she recommended. Rachel’s following and content continues to grow as she has recently become a mom twice over. Her signature style has manifested in the expansion of her business to include her newly released fashion line: Rachel Parcell
Miss Liz Heart
Sweet and style savvy, Liz has created her You Tube chanel out of her love for lifestyle, food, decor, beauty and fashion. Based out of Texas, Liz’s big heart shows in each of her videos. She has a talent for filming and editing videos which are as beautiful to watch as they are informative! Liz manages to touch on all of the topics that interest the modern, style-minded woman. I definitely recommend this channel!
Open yourself up to the world of inspiration found on social media… and you will be amazed! Today’s social media is more than just entertainment – it’s a source for connection where women can share their passions and positive energy!
