My love for wine has grown significantly over the years as it has been a part of so many significant memories – whether it’s toasting special events & occasions, the accompaniment to many much needed girls nights, or the perfect pairing to unforgettable meals. I can reminisce over so many wonderful memories associated with some of my favourite bottles of wine; one sip and those moments are re-lived. There was a point in my life where I wanted to become fully educated in the wine industry and become a sommelier…perhaps a route my life journey still may take. I have always had and will continue to have the dream to retire in the Okanagan as a proud owner of a winery where I spend my days in the vineyards overlooking the lake and enjoy my evenings surrounded by visitors who have a passion for wine. Until then – I will allow my personal passion for wine to grow and my taste buds to be tantalized by new discoveries combined with my consistent favourites that never let me down. From one wino to another – cheers!

I enjoy wine so much that I even add it to my cocktails! These are great recipes for those who may not have the acquired taste for wine on its own, but are open to experimenting with cocktails. Or, if you are like me you enjoy getting creative and mixing things up when it comes to your sips & celebrations. Below are a few of my favourite recipes with wine as a key ingredient.
*2 Shots Dry White Wine (Sauvignon Blanc or Champagne)
*2 Shots St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur
*2 Shots Club Soda
-Stir really well over ice and garnish with your favourite zest (Lemon, Lime, Orange). I like to add frozen fruit to all my cocktails as it doubles as an ice cube and a sweet treat finale! Frozen blueberries would be great in this!
Island Time – Take Me Away
*2 Shots Sweet White Wine (Autumn Gold or Moscato)
*2 Shots Malibu Coconut Rum
*2 Shots Pineapple Juice
-Stir really well over ice and garnish with a slice of pineapple. I like to add canned pineapple pieces or frozen mangos to the drink to add that extra hint of sweetness to the last drop. Other tropical fruit juices could be a great substitute for this recipe as well – whatever your island heart desires.
Spritz Me Up
*3 Shots Red Wine
*3 Shots Club Soda
*Fresh or Frozen Raspberries & Mint
-Muddle Raspberries & mint, add ice, and stir all ingredients over ice. Add an extra raspberry and mint leave for garnish. If I want a hint of a flavour twist I use flavoured club soda for some fun (lime, cherry, etc).
Take the time to celebrate all that you are this week and experiment with a new bottle of wine or a cocktail recipe that tickles your fancy!
Cheers to you,
Jody Belanger XOXO
