Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with your man, woman… or a group of gal pals, Valentine’s Day is a day to share lots of love and even more chocolate! I have learned over the years that Valentine’s Day can be just as much (if not more) fun, spent with friends who you know will love and appreciate the effort and detail that you put into the celebration. So no matter what your current ‘status’ may be, I suggest planning a tea time with your lady loves. And, whatever you do… do NOT go on a first date on Valentine’s Day. I learned the lesson the hard way when I was 18. I got stood up… but I’ll spare you the heart-wrenching details! The moral is: spend the day with people who you truly care about, and be showered with true love, laughs and good conversation!
For this Valentine’s Day tea styling, I am combining some naughty and nice vibes. Everyone wants to feel a little ‘saucy’ on Valentine’s Day… and this canvas art I purchased from Homesense certainly sets the tone! When serving high tea, tradition would say to always ‘be a lady’… but nobody ever clarified that it doesn’t include also being ‘a sexy lady’!
Something to sip? Since we are bending tradition, why not try a cold brew tea? For this setting, I brewed STASH Acai Berry tea, steeped with frozen strawberries for an infusion of flavour. Serving your beverage in a wine decanter with some simple touches is so much more stylish than granny’s old teapot! (Tip! A second decanter with actual wine would be okay too… I won’t judge!)
Getting Lippy! The sassy lip print tea cup and ‘Some Like It Hot’ spoon were sourced from the ah-mazing Lofty Living Boutique in New West. And hey, while you’re there… don’t forget to pick up a copy of our magazine. They are one of our lovely rack locations!
It’s okay to cheat! Create a tiered affect for your goodie service by stacking dishes. Have fun with this! In this shot you see we were able to incorporate a black and white striped box as well as a crystal candy dish, adding carefree detail and whimsy.
A toast to us. The sky is the limit in creating custom Valentine’s Day bites… all you need is a simple heart cookie cutter.
For this service, I created heart shaped toast with pink butter and sprinkles. (Tip! You can create your own pink butter by whipping together equal parts strawberry and/or raspberry jam with butter.)
The gift of love… and makeup. Even though we are grown women, the little girl inside would love to leave the party with a ‘goodie bag’! May we suggest red nail polish to-go? Also, our go-to favourite lipstick, Rimmel Provocalips, just happens to come in packaging that screams ‘Be My Valentine’!
Custom Kiss Balloons. I love balloons. They’re cheap, they’re colourful, they create a fun vibe, and they fill space with your theme. Finding ways to customize balloons is my newest quest… and these kiss balloons are next level.
(Tip! When decorating with balloons, remember that you can control the size you blow them up to. Try small balloons. Everything is always cuter in ‘mini’! They can also be strung to create a darling garland.)
Betty Crocker, I’m Not. So when it came to baking, I cheated. At a traditional high tea, each guest is served single samplings of a variety of petit morsels. This works for me! When you only need 2 to 4 of each goodie, you can get creative. Visit your local bakery or coffee shop and pick up a few of your favourites.
Fortunate Friends. Fortune cookies are always fun around Valentine’s Day and are a great conversation piece over tea!
Accessorize with flair. Add an element of fun to your treat display! Pop in fun quotes, tags… or even photos to add dimension to the goodie display.
That’s a wrap. Whether you’re setting up on your dining room table, coffee table, or a sideboard – using wrapping paper as a runner is a great way to add a spirited injection of your theme to set the scene.
I hope that even just one of these ideas may help add sweetness to your Valentine’s Day this year! No matter how you spend your day, know that we are sending out kisses your way!
