I am here to confess that I have established quite the notebook fetish over the years…some may call it an obsession! But who could resist? Everywhere you go there are cute notebooks of all sizes, in adorable prints and eye-catching colors, some with thought provoking quotes to pump you up, or covers with the texture to draw you in. And you don’t even need to go to a notebook or journaling section of a store to be bombarded with this cuteness overload! They are EVERYWHERE…and I can’t get enough! I am here to share with you how I have put my obsession to good use and hopefully inspire some of you ladies to fill those pages of that cute journal sitting on your desk or coffee table right now! Here is my list of creative ways to use your notebooks and give you an excuse to not hesitate to buy the next one that catches your eye!
Travel Journal – Travelling opens you up to a whole different world of experiences and you are often in sensory overload with all the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and the simple joys of being in a moment that you couldn’t have created in your everyday life. Take a journal with you so that you can document all the moments, places, and people that you never want to forget.
List Book – I am a list maker, no doubt about that! Whether it’s a To Do List, Grocery List, Packing List – or even the ultimate list: your Bucket List! There is something to be said about the feeling you get seeing everything written down on paper that you want to accomplish and being able to check it off with satisfaction.
Fitness Tracker – Fitness itself is very results oriented and often we can lose motivation when we don’t see progress. Using a journal to keep track of your workouts, the weights used, reps done, duration and speed…all of this will help you want to keep pushing yourself to just do a little more. Go crush those fitness goals and give yourself something to celebrate!
Recipe-Saver – For all your masters in the kitchen or heck, for even the amateurs like myself, it always feels good when you have tried a new recipe and it turned out better than you could have imagined and got rave reviews from everyone at the table. Keeping a notebook with all your favourite go-to recipes with your own twists helps when you need some cooking inspiration or you forgot to plan for that potluck dinner party and want to go for a sure thing!
Wine Memoir – Who doesn’t love a good bottle of wine?!?! So many of us tend to gravitate towards the same few bottles of wine we know and love because it’s easy. I can’t tell you how many times I have been out at a restaurant or a dinner party and fallen in love with a bottle of wine and have repeated the name and stared at the label over and over to ensure I will know what to pick up next time I am in the store. Wishful thinking, I always forget and it becomes a distant memory. Because of this, I have started a wine list journal and before going to the store I flip it open for some wine inspiration and have been purchasing out of my comfort zone.
Little Black Book– When you have a job that calls for you to mix and mingle and ensure that you always have networking hat on as you never know where the connections may lead, it can be hard to keep track of everyone that you have met. I like to keep a small notebook in my purse so when I take a bathroom break or head back to my car I can jot down the names and a few things to remember them by. Consider it my little black book…but it’s rarely black when I have so many cute options to choose from! Little Pink Book…now that’s better!
Inspiration Capsule – I am a woman inspired and moved by words on the daily. Whether it’s in my searches for a quote of the day, randomly coming across one during my daily social media fix, seeing one on a shirt or coffee mug while out and about shopping, overhearing the lady sitting at the table next to me at lunch, or having a conversation with someone in my life… there are powerful quotes everywhere! They need to be written down and saved for a later time when you or someone are in need of hearing this perfect perception and interpretation of life.
Gratitude Journal – The power of gratitude is one that plays a strong role in my life and my journey. I feel that in order to keep your life moving forward in a positive light we must not forget to take a moment to express our gratitude for what we do have. And believe me, if you make this a regular practice you will realize that even in your darkest moments you still have a lot to be grateful for. So let the positivity flow through and reflect in gratitude daily!
Cliff Notes – I often find myself getting lost in a good non-fiction book or watching an informative documentary and I want to be sure I take away some of the valuable ideas and lessons to be learned. Not only to use them as inspiration and guidance in my own life, but also share this knowledge with others. I like to keep a notebook handy to take notes on anything that empowers me whenever I am reading or watching videos…brings me back to my University note-taking days!
Keepsake – There is no better gift than one that is personalized and thoughtful. Find a notebook that suits the style of a loved one and buy it well in advance of a special occasion (Birthday, Christmas, Anniversary). Take the time to write notes to them in the journal throughout the year. Be sure to write in it after a great night out you two had together or after a conversation or moment that was very special to you. It’s a journal of raw in the moment thoughts and feelings you have about them and all that you have experienced together in the previous year. Watch there eyes and heart burst with happiness when opening something special like this!
Password Gatekeeper – Do we really need a password for absolutely everything these days? And do they have to be different ones? And does there have to be so much specific criteria for all them to be approved? And are we really supposed to remember them all? The answer is yes to all of the above, but don’t fret, your password notebook will save the day! And be a huge lifesaver when technology fails us at the worst of times.
Gift Guide – When it comes to gift giving I like to put a lot of thought into it and make sure I am giving something of value to the person receiving, and most importantly their face lights up with the biggest smile when its opened. I used to be very good at remembering all the things they had mentioned they wanted or new hobbies and interests they have but…lately I have the memory of a goldfish. So, the solution is a notebook for taking notes on your loved ones wants, needs, interests, you name it…anything to make that holiday shopping a lot smoother!
I hope you ladies have been inspired to use your notebooks in some more creative ways and will be sure to have near you at all times! It’s one obsession we all can feel good about! Cheers to the wonderful world of notebooks!
